About Dr. Carolyn
Dr. Carolyn Nguyen received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. After obtaining her medical degree (M.D.) at UC Davis School of Medicine in Davis, CA, she went on to complete her medical internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. She finished her residency training in Adult Psychiatry and additional subspecialty fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UCLA Semel Institute (UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital and UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center) in Los Angeles, CA.

During her training, she held several leadership positions in organized psychiatry at the state and national level, and also received numerous awards and honors, including the American Psychiatric Association/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Adminsistration's "Minority Fellowship Award", the Southern California Psychiatric Society's "Outstanding Resident Award", and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry "Outstanding Child And Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Award".

Dr. Carolyn Nguyen is an Adult and Child Psychiatrist in Orange County, CA. She has a private practice that specializes in treating children, adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing emotional, behavioral or relationship difficulties. She provides services in diagnostic evaluations, consultations, medication treatment (psychopharmacology), and therapy (dynamic psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc.). She aims to provide an integrative biopsychosocial approach and personalized care to each individual and family with her philosophy of trying to minimize medications when possible but also being comfortable to use medications effectively when necessary. Her interests include Anxiety, Mood, and Psychotic Disorders, as well as Advocacy and Cross-Cultural Psychiatry. She particularly enjoys dynamic psychotherapy with adolescents and adults.

Fees
Initial Evaluation (Children/Adolescents/Adults)
$450 for the initial evaluation/consultation session, whether for medications, therapy, or both. Please note that the initial evaluation/consultation process may take up to three sessions depending on complexity.
The first initial session is up to 90 minutes and any subsequent follow-up evaluation sessions are 50 minutes.

Follow-up Sessions (Children/Adolescents/Adults)
$300 for 50 minute therapy session, with or without medications
$175 for 25 minute medication-only, follow-up visit

Payment is due at the time of treatment (cash, check, or credit cards).

Insurance
Dr. Carolyn Nguyen does not accept Medi-Cal or Medicare and is not on any insurance panels. However, she is considered an “out-of-network” physician for PPO insurance plans and can provide you with a "superbill" statement that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of a portion of your paid fee (varies from 20% to 90% reimbursement). Please contact your insurance company for details on whether they reimburse policy holders for out-of-pocket payment for the following psychiatric services codes rendered by noncontracted providers: 90801 (initial psychiatric consultation); 90805 (20-25 minute follow-up medication visit); 90806 or 90807 (45-50 minute therapy visit with or without medication evaluation); 90847 (family or couples therapy).

Dr. Carolyn Nguyen wants to provide high-quality services that are tailored to your individual circumstances and personal needs, rather than based on an insurance company's demands and restrictions upon the time and frequency she spends on your care. Elimination of paperwork and hours on the phone with insurance companies allows her to spend more quality time with you.

Dr. Carolyn Nguyen's office is located at 1001 Dove Street, Suite 280, Newport Beach, CA 92660. Click here for directions. Parking is free on-site in the lot for the 1001 Dove Street building. Suite 280 is located on the 2nd floor at the NW corner of the building, closest to the NW staircase. When you arrive, please locate the patient arrival light switch system next to the sofa and activate the middle switch, labelled "Dr. Carolyn". Please take a seat in the waiting room and she will come meet you at your appointed time.
